We always feel jolly at The Jolly Oyster in Ventura, CA! It is a fun place to go right next to the beach, located in San Buenaventura State Beach. Only open on the weekends, this place has a wonderful ambiance and casual atmosphere. You can let them do the work and order cooked/raw food from one truck, or BBQ their seafood yourself from the other truck. If you forget your oyster shucker or BBQ tools, then they are available for purchase along with many other handy items and pairing sauces. We advise to bring champagne, possibly an ice chest, and some cooking equipment. It’s free to enter the park if you tell them you are headed to The Jolly Oyster, as long as you only stay one hour. Here, music is playing and everyone is having a relaxed, good time. The beach and public restrooms are nearby. Last time, we got the grilled oysters and thought they were better than the cold oysters, but both are yummy and fresh. We found the cold sauces to be not that interesting, so we will likely take our own oyster toppers next time. The oyster tacos were filled with fried and breaded oysters, but it could have used a few extra inside and had more flavor. The clam soup was awesome! They have more than just oysters at The Jolly Oyster. This place is super dog-friendly, and they even brought our pugs, Lucy and Bam Bam, a bowl of water.
